I have been lucky enough to have some amazing experiences over the past couple of years, and I figured now is as good a time as any to start writing about them.
I start my internship as an environmental education intern at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, Delaware tomorrow. Reading over the schedule for the two day training session, I'm trying not to get nervous/overwhelmed. You would think that I would be used to diving into foreign situations by now, but there is still the fleeting thought that it could end up not being what I expected and that I'd be stuck here unhappily for three months.
So far, it has surpassed my expectations. As soon as I heard the words "dorm housing" I immediately started searching craigslist for an apartment. I was not really a fan of my dorm at SMU. I swore it would be the last one I ever lived in... Two years later I found myself in a run down dorm at the summer ballet program I attended in Washington D.C..
Realizing I was being silly and kind of selfish, I decided I could suck it up and take the free housing. Good thing, too. It is a really big rustic place with lots of shared living and kitchen space. I already know that I am going to enjoy living with the people here. I spent the last three years living in an apartment by myself, and it could sometimes get lonely. An extra bonus is there isn't an RA or any other house authority, so I still feel like I have all the freedom I need. (Side note - in the D.C. dorms I got "grounded" to my room for roaming the city without a third person...as a senior in college.)
I'd like to post some things about my previous adventures sometime. We'll see if it happens.
Crossing my fingers for tomorrow!
